I made a new song tonight: "Last Night". The idea came to me on the way home from work today, and then I just made it happen.
Samples used: The Strokes - Last Night Kid N Play - Last Night The Travelling Wilburys - Last Night
Tee-hee... I remember a while ago when the Onion made a fake TV Schedule, and I LOL'ed. Well, they're back to their old tricks. Not as funny as the last one I think, but still... would someone Tivo the WB's "Beautiful, Interchangeable Teens Hurt Each Other's Feelings" for me tonight?
Wow... I found their TV listing from September 2001. I guess the world needed laughter, but... wow. Can't seem to locate their earlier one, oh well. Tuesday, March 30, 2004
Chuck D isn't impressed with Kanye West's success. The Public Enemy frontman wrote on his Web site that he was wondering how "somebody gets top-notch producer credits for speeding up old records." I don't listen to the radio... who's Kanye West? And where Chuck D's site at? Does this mean Chuck would poo-poo the stuff I make? That would be a bummer... I have a lot of respect for that dude. I like to think I'm doing a little bit more than speeding up old songs. That gives me an idea... speed up some old Public Enemy. UPDATE: I found Chuck's site. PublicEnemy.com, of all places. Here are his clarifications. No love for Empty V. And still not sure what he'd think of my experiments. And no word of upcoming collaborations with Lenlow either.
Several of you wonder where I hear about some of the music I have. I have a strong feeling that from now on my answer will often be NewFlux. It's basically a guy blogging music reviews, but I really dig his taste in tunes. And every one is downloadable, which is nice. And every song is obscure, which is twice as nice. It's my turn to say "where does he hear about this stuff?"
If it's obscurity he's after, I wonder what he'd think of Lenlow...
Yankees lose! Yankees lose! This season is o-ver.
An acquaintance of mine offered me four tickets to a Sox-Yankees game in NY. They would have cost me at least $800. I decided to pass. Monday, March 29, 2004
I saw "Monster" this weekend. Not exactly the feel-good movie of the year. Kudos to the makeup department for making Charlize Theron very unattractive. And kudos to Charlize for acting very unattractive. Didn't think it was possible.
Fun fact: "kudos" is not really plural. It's Greek for "glory". I cannot wait until Sunday. My three favorite harbingers of springtime will all happen on THE SAME DAY: (1) Turning the clocks ahead. (2) Opening day for the Red Sox. (3) Opening day of ultimate frisbee Spring league. Thursday, March 25, 2004
New release in the hizzy, titled "Titled".
Samples used: The Spinners - It's a Shame Rufus Wainwright - Last Goodbye Radiohead - High and Dry Paul McCartney and the Wings - Band on the Run Interpol - Untitled Suzanne Vega - Left of Center ...and a few unlicensed samples that came with my software. Boy, if I ever put out a CD, I wonder if I can make a profit after paying for all these samples... Wednesday, March 24, 2004
Well, Chicago was excellent. Some good quality time with Katie, Matt and Mom. Katie's workplace is awesome (37th floor overlooking Lake Michigan) and her Chicago friends are cool. And she lives over a bar where everybody knows her name and her drinks are half-price. We went to a karaoke bar Saturday night, which was loads o' fun. Katie and Matt each represented the Enlows very well onstage, while I was content to watch. Matt took some pictures, but he left his camera in my bag, so they might see the light of day in a couple more weeks. Sorry this paragraph is boring... I guess I'm tired.
Here's a time-lapse video of a climbing plant. Also, I remember seeing this guy who could "pop" and "lock" and/or "break" with the best of them several years ago and being very impressed. And what do you know, he's still got it! Ooh, Walmart now has music downloads for 88 cents. Take that, iTunes! I wonder how the selection is... hmm, they don't seem to have any Lenlow, that's weird... Hey cool, LenLowLand has surpassed the 50,000 visitor mark (since June 2001). Far out, man. Thursday, March 18, 2004
Well, I'm off to Chicago in a few hours. Matt and I are going out to visit Katie and some other friends of ours... I am looking forward to it. Have a nice weekend, everyone.

Sleeves: "The only clothing that gives you the illusion of tattoos." I'm looking for the different skin colors but I can't seem to find them...
I'm reminded of an old comic strip (Peanuts maybe?) involving a young African-American boy and either a "flesh-colored" band-aid, or a "flesh-colored" crayon. Can anyone help me with those details?
This banner ad was on hotmail today. I must say, I don't get it. One ugly one? Who are the ad wizards that came up with this one?
![]() Or, maybe, by sharing the ad with my audience of thousands, I have fallen right into their trap... genius!
I made another song. And it only took one night!
Goldfrapp - Lovely Head (Lenlow Remix) Here's my new formula for turning out hits: Step 1: Get a song you like that lots of people haven't heard. Step 2: Speed it up and add drums to it. Step 3: Repeat. But seriously, if today's remix sounds good to you, it's all because "Lovely Head" is such a cool song. Props to Goldfrapp. Enjoy the original. Samples I used, in this order: two percussion samples that came with my software, Eric Serra's "Noon" (from one of my favorite movies, The Professional), Jurassic 5's "Sum Of Us", Goldfrapp's "Lovely Head" (surprise!), and Bad Bascomb's "Black Grass", which could become my trademark if I'm not careful. As promised, a new release: Vegas Baby.
It's not my best work, but I still enjoy listening to it. You music purists out there will probably think it's too repetitive, but you dance music enthusiasts out there might appreciate it more. I think parts of it may be too noisy, for example when all eight tracks I sampled are playing at the same time. Oh well. Now to revisit the other ten ideas I have. Thursday, March 11, 2004
I will finish a song this weekend. Last night I started something from scratch and I think it's going to work. All the ingredients are there... now I just need the recipe.
Wow, Tracy McGrady had 62 points last night. Check out this list of 100 most mispronounced words. I learned a thing or two... namely that it's "cardsharp" and not "card shark", "barbiturate" and not "barbituate", "champ at the bit" and not "chomp at the bit", "spit and image" and not "spitting image". And apparently "forte" is pronounced "fort" except in music. And they say DON'T pronounce the T in "often"! Can you imagine encountering someone who actually corrected you on these pronunciations? People just do not like being corrected (trust me I know), and I can understand why. You come across as arrogant instead of as just trying to help. So I've been trying to cut down. MySpace.com reminds me of something but I just can't figure out what it is...
Anyone out there have a MySpace profile? Does it have any value? Saturday, March 06, 2004
I made a music page where you can download MP3's of mine and of others. I put a link on the left too. It's just more convenient this way. And I do hope to keep adding to it... maybe when Menlow visits he can help me with my DJ's block.
Hooray, my buddy Nathan the aspiring actor in LA started a blog! It should be entertaining; he's the funniest person I know.

A while ago I recommended a pretty cool Calvin and Hobbes site... but I just found one that's way better. Not only is it one of the best designed and programmed websites I've ever seen, but he's got every strip ever made, and you can search for your favorites. I could only remember one off the top of my head, because I had saved it out of the newspaper. Do you have a favorite you'd like to share, boys and girls?

I don't have any new music to share. Instead of spending 95% of my weekend staring at my computer, like I have done the previous two weekends, I actually did some other things. I cut that computer time to about 20%. I've got about ten works in progress that I'm having trouble finishing... they're all missing something. We'll see what happens.
I saw Club Dread Saturday, and I was rather disappointed. They tried making a horror flick and a comedy at the same time, and I don't think it worked. Super Troopers was hilarious because the plot was secondary to the comedy, but every part of Club Dread revolved around the cheesy horror plot. I was surprised to see the same actors here failing to make me laugh consistently. But anyway, that evening I had some peeps over to watch Super Troopers and that made everything better. Yesterday I watched Master and Commander and I really really liked it. The details of life on a frigate in 1800 were fascinating. And it turns out "around the horn" comes from sailing around Cape Horn to get to the Pacific Ocean (pre-Panama Canal). Cool. Saw De La Soul last night and they kicked bum bum. It was way more party than politics. The only politics was a five-minute video telling us that we should vote. It didn't even tell us whom to vote for! How are we supposed to know? Anyhoo... Mase (De La's DJ) is awesome. He started the show with a 15-minute Tribe Called Quest medley, cutting out the sound at the right moments for the crowd to sing along. Fun stuff. But there was this one time between songs when Plugs 1 and 2 were talking about something, and Mase was playing the beginning to Grover Washington's "Mr. Magic" over a hip hop beat. And that's EXACTLY what I had been doing a few hours earlier on my computer. That's one of my works in progress! (Except mine has another component that makes it better.) So I got that goin for me, which is nice. |
