Hi, I'm Luke. sometimes known as Lenlow. That's me on the left there, about 5 years ago. Hey, redesigning websites is a pain. Anyhoo, I live in Boston. I do computer stuff for a living. My hobbies include making mashups and playing them out live. Go over to my music page for that stuff. Or hang out here and listen to me blog. Since most of my free time is music-oriented, that tends to be what I blog about. You've been warned.

Good news everybody... this is the fourth day in a row that all three of my fantasy baseball teams have been in first place.

This Honda commercial is one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time. I recommend you pause it until the whole thing has loaded, then press play. Here is an article about the ad.

Radiohead, The Roots, Beastie Boys, Beck, Interpol, Blackalicious, Blur, and much, much more.

It's the Field Day Festival. If it didn't sound too much like a hassle, I would probably go. Why can't these bands just play in my back yard for free? Stupid selfish rock stars.

Finally... time for the third and final chapter of our trip to Belize: Placencia. It's a good thing I have pictures, or else I wouldn't have remembered what to talk about. But I do remember. Wednesday morning we took a ferry from Caye Caulker to Belize City. Again, Belize City is a dump. We spent about an hour there because I was on a quest to find a Belizean National soccer team jersey. It would have made a perfect souvenir... but it seems the jerseys are not available to the public. I was disappointed. I couldn't even locate any club team jerseys. Most people didn't even know what I was talking about (and yes, I called it football instead of soccer). So anyway, from Belize City we took a small plane down to the tiny peninsula village of Placencia. How small was the plane? From my seat I could tap the pilot on the shoulder. Here's a view of Placencia from the plane. The long crescent-shaped beach on the left of the picture is where we spent most of our time.

The Placencia beach was what most attracted us to the village. Caye Caulker was for awesome snorkelling, and Placencia would be for awesome lounging on the beach. Here's the beach. Here's the beach again. Here's me enjoying a hammock hotspot we found... until we got kicked out because it was private. Here's a restaurant/bar that was right on the beach where we enjoyed many a fruity drink and many moments of comfort in the shade.

Thursday and Friday evenings I played soccer with the locals. Here's me during pre-game warmups. The locals were pretty good. I was so rusty and (as you can see from all these pictures) not quite down to my ideal playing weight, but I think "Gringo" represented USA well. Those kids play every day, and there's never too few for a game. It made me jealous.

Friday we decided to take a break from lounging on the beach, and we took a day trip to a tiny little island... to lounge on the beach. It was a great trip... we could snorkel all the way around the island. Our guides, Renny and Junior, took us to the island and cooked lunch for us. That was a nice touch. One funny thing that happened was that Renny said we could do some snorkeling on our own, then after lunch he would take us on a tour around the island. After lunch, which was delicious, we waited a while and enjoyed the warm water. Meanwhile, Junior took a couple people scuba diving. After a while we wondered about the tour, and we found Renny fast asleep. So we took our own little tour. But that's okay because there wasn't much "guiding" Renny could have done anyway. Here are some more pictures from the island... Adrienne and I on the beach, Ade on the beach, and Ade still on the beach. Another "funny" thing that happened was that on the way home from the tiny little island, our engine died when we were within eyesight of the shore. Renny and Junior got out and pushed the boat for a bit, and one old guy got out and decided to swim for shore. But he didn't tell his wife he was going to swim to shore, so she thought he was drifting farther and farther away, and she was understandably miffed. But he made it back OK. After a little while we got rescued by this dude. He reminded me of the guy who played Cerrano in Major League, the president on "24", and the cook in Heat (not to be confused with a cook in heat).

In summary... Belize was nice.

Sorry for the delay, but I was waiting for the snorkelling pictures to get developed. Yeah... that's it.

Based upon a recommendation, we chose a guy named Juni to lead our snorkelling expedition. All we knew was that he lived across from the basketball court in Caye Caulker, and that he has been leading tours for a long long time. For twenty years he has gone to the same exact spots in the barrier reef for every day for seven months out of the year. And we soon found out why.

We took his sailboat out for about 45 minutes until we got to Shark Ray Alley, a diving hotspot of the barrier reef. (By the way, the reef off Belize's coast is the second longest in the world, the first being the Great Barrier Reef over by Australia.) When we got there a few other boats were hanging around, and Juni said we'd wait for the other tours to clear out. So he took the time to tell us a little story. He told us about a time eleven years ago when he found a harpooned shark struggling on the ocean floor. Every day for a couple weeks he came to where the shark was and gave her some food, until one day she swam off. He said he also delivered the shark's babies, and that the mama shark and her babies treated him as part of the family. Every day he came to Shark Ray Alley his shark family came and played with him. While Juni proceeded with some shark safety tips, I was mentally rolling my eyes, thinking that his story was just a story. But when we got in the water I believed him. These four sharks came out of nowhere and were all over him. He was hugging them, wrestling with them and kissing them. It was quite an experience, especially when he beckoned for us to come over and play. We had so much fun playing with these sharks.

Since all the pictures are rather good, I decided to give you links to the entire albums on Snapfish. Plus, it saves me a lot of work. The only downside is that you'll have to register on Snapfish.com to get a username and password. I'm the one in the green shirt, and Ade is wearing navy blue. Juni's the one with the wet suit. I think you'll be able to figure out which ones are the sharks and the rays. Juni also showed us some moray eels, but they might be hard to see in the pictures. They're kind of a dull green.

Album 1: Shark Ray Alley.

Album 2: The other place we went. Fewer big creatures, but this is where the prettier fish and moray eels were. Pictures 4-6 show Juni taunting the eels. There's also some shark and ray pictures in this album.

Okay, I think I'll do this in installments. Believe it or not I'm not a huge fan of sitting down and writing really long posts. Maybe I'll end each installment with a cliffhanger to pique the interest of my readers. It worked for the Dukes of Hazzard.

On Sunday the 23rd Adrienne and I flew from Boston to Jamaica, then to Belize City. Boy were our arms tired. Belize City is kind of a dump, so we got out of there as soon as possible. We took a boat to Caye Caulker, our destination for the first several days. That's about the time I remembered I had a camera, so I took my first picture. This is the gentleman who drove us to our island paradise. I call this still life "Fat guy in a little boat". He was a scary dude.

When we got to Caye Caulker, we walked through the village and checked out our "hotel". Our accommodations were adequate, except I'm pretty sure there were bugs in my bed. Not nice. The upside was that our hotel had a long dock in front with a palapa plus hammock on it, which was a nice touch. That first afternoon was also the first time we got to test the water, and wow. Warmer than any heated pool I've ever been in. It really did feel like someone had just peed where I was swimming... even those times when I hadn't. Here's a shot of our deck, and one of Ade in front of our hotel.

The pictures you're seeing are just ones I took... Ade took about a hundred other ones that I hope to get my hands on in about a week. Tune in next time for the highlight of our trip: snorkelling in the barrier reef.
